Well there hasn’t been much to report recently – November was icy cold, but December has been yo-yoing between extremes. An unseasonably warm and sunny day today saw the spiders in my back garden coming out to frolic. Somehow or other though, a Nuctenea umbratica (sometimes knows as the shadow spider because of its flattened black body), blundered into the path of a similarly-sized Steatoda nobilis, or false widow, which turned out to be a particularly dopy thing to do. These are both about half-grown, so neither is a midget.
