‘Tis the season for weedy male spiders to take their lives in their hands looking for a receptive female to mate with. Along Church Walk on my way home this evening I spotted this laddie trying his luck – creeping forward millimetre by millimetre, getting right up to touching distance, then legging it again. I find it difficult to read the facial expressions of female spiders, but she didn’t give any evidence of wanting to rip his head off; hardly twitched a muscle in fact. Maybe that’s a bad thing in spider circles.
